TEMPS-A (short version) plays a supplementary role in the differential diagnosis between major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder

Chihiro Morishita et al.

Summary: Early differential diagnosis between patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD) is crucial, with affective temperaments playing a potential role in mood disorder diagnosis. Anxious and cyclothymic temperaments were identified as factors differentiating between MDD and BD, and may aid in the early identification of BD patients. Limitations of the study include its cross-sectional design and the possibility of MDD patients converting to BD over time.

Genetic underpinnings of affective temperaments: a pilot GWAS investigation identifies a new genome-wide significant SNP for anxious temperament in ADGRB3 gene

Xenia Gonda et al.

Summary: This study conducted a pilot GWAS with in-depth phenotyping of affective temperaments in a European population sample. Significant and suggestively significant SNPs associated with anxious temperament were identified in ADGRB3, expressed in the brain. Functional analyses revealed potential relevant phenotypes regulated by top SNPs expressed in the brain. Further validation in larger GWA studies and candidate gene analyses is needed.
