Perinatal and cardiac outcomes of women with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Emilie L'Ecuyer et al.

Summary: Pregnancy is physiologically stressful for women with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, especially when there is left ventricular outflow tract obstruction. This study found that obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy was associated with increased cardiac events, while prematurity and small for gestational age were common in both obstructive and non-obstructive cases. Early fetal growth surveillance and close monitoring of treated obstructive cases are recommended for all pregnant women with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
