Biostimulants Derived from Moroccan Seaweeds: Seed Germination Metabolomics and Growth Promotion of Tomato Plant

Abir Mzibra et al.

Summary: Polysaccharides extracted from seaweeds can act as plant biostimulants. This study evaluated the effects of Polysaccharide Enriched Extracts (PEEs) obtained from Moroccan seaweeds on tomato seed germination and plant growth. Results showed that PEEs can significantly increase germination percentage and speed, while reducing mean germination time. Application of higher concentrations of PEEs also enhanced plant dry weight and chlorophyll content.

Exploring the Role of a Cytokinin-Activating Enzyme LONELY GUY in Unicellular Microalga Chlorella variabilis

Saraswati Nayar

Summary: The study investigates the role of the lonely guy gene (CvarLOG1) in the unicellular green microalga Chlorella variabilis NC64A, finding that overexpression of CvarLOG1 leads to extended life span, increased biomass and potential applications in the biofuel industry. Transcriptomic analysis shows that genes associated with photosynthesis were upregulated, indicating a possible reason for the increased biomass.
