The association between antimicrobials and the antimicrobial-resistant phenotypes and resistance genes of Escherichia coli isolated from hospital wastewaters and adjacent surface waters in Sri Lanka

Keerthi S. Guruge et al.

Summary: This study investigated the presence of antimicrobials, ARB, and ARGs in hospital wastewaters and surface waters. Results showed that certain resistant genes were associated with personal care products, and disparities were observed in the release of ARB and ARGs into downstream waters based on specific factors such as site, treatment, and year.
