Novel Fenton process of Co-catalyst Co9S8 quantum dots for highly efficient removal of organic pollutants

Chencheng Dong et al.

Summary: The synthesis of water-soluble Co9S8 quantum dots significantly enhances the decomposition rate of H2O2, improving the efficiency of treating organic pollutants using advanced oxidation processes. The unsaturated edged S atoms on the surface of Co9S8 play a key role in promoting the reaction process. Additionally, magnetic Co9S8 QDs/Fe3O4 nanoparticles show excellent performance in degrading Rhodamine B.

Activating peroxydisulfate with Co3O4/NiCo2O4 double-shelled nanocages to selectively degrade bisphenol A - A nonradical oxidation process

Meimei Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a Co3O4/NiCo2O4 double-shelled nanocage was fabricated and used as a catalyst for the degradation of BPA by activating PDS, showing superior performance. The double shelled hollow structure helped increase the concentration of reactants and promote the decomposition of BPA. The research indicated that MOF-derived nanomaterials with a hollow structure have promising application prospects in oxidation technology.

Atomically Dispersed Cobalt Sites on Graphene as Efficient Periodate Activators for Selective Organic Pollutant Degradation

Yangke Long et al.

Summary: Pollutant degradation via IO4--based AOPs can be optimized using single-atomic metal activation, as demonstrated by the successful activation of IO4- for organic pollutant degradation using N-rGO-CoSA activators. The efficient activation process is mediated by Co-N coordination sites and the conductive graphene matrix, enhancing the overall oxidation capacity.

Singlet oxygen triggered by robust bimetallic MoFe/TiO2 nanospheres of highly efficacy in solar-light-driven peroxymonosulfate activation for organic pollutants removal

Chencheng Dong et al.

Summary: This study constructed bimetallic MoFe/TiO2 nanospheres, which showed superior performance in degrading organic pollutants under simulated solar light. Photo-generated electrons and transition metallic redox couples played vital roles in the PMS activation process. Different from traditional SR-AOPs, sulfate radicals, hydroxyl radicals, and peroxymonosulfate radicals indeed participated in the generation of singlet oxygen.

Understanding spatial effects of tetrahedral and octahedral cobalt cations on peroxymonosulfate activation for efficient pollution degradation

Zhe Xu et al.

Summary: Identifying the spatial effects of cobalt cations in cobalt-based heterogeneous catalysts is essential for developing effective peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activators in water treatment. The study found that octahedral cobalt species exhibit superior intrinsic activities compared to tetrahedral ones, and interface kinetics characterized by systemic electrochemical techniques determine the intrinsic activity of the catalyst. Additionally, the flat band potentials of cobalt-based oxides reflecting Fermi level positions play a role in activating PMS.
