Comparison of Utilization, Costs, and Quality of Medicaid vs Subsidized Private Health Insurance for Low-Income Adults

Heidi Allen et al.

Summary: This study compared low-income adults with Medicaid and subsidized private (Marketplace) insurance in terms of coverage, utilization, quality, and costs. The analysis found that Medicaid was associated with more emergency department visits and less office visits compared to Marketplace, with lower costs. The results suggest that Medicaid coverage was more cost-effective while private insurance showed mixed results in healthcare quality.
