Design of Asymmetric Nanofibers-Membranes Based on Polyvinyl Alcohol and Wool-Keratin for Wound Healing Applications

Diego O. Sanchez Ramirez et al.

Summary: The development of asymmetric membranes by matching two fibrous layers with different properties to mimic the epidermis and dermis shows great promise in skin regeneration. The top layer is made of cross-linked PVA nanofibers to replicate the epidermis, while the bottom layer is a combination of PVA and wool-keratin for dermis-like properties. These asymmetric membranes have potential for supporting specific cell activities in wound healing applications.

Advances in Fabricating the Electrospun Biopolymer-Based Biomaterials

Sebastian Wilk et al.

Summary: This review highlights recent advances in techniques aimed to improve the electrospinnability of biopolymers, focusing on fiber morphology, mechanical properties, and biocompatibility. Various methods for electrospinning single materials and copolymers, as well as different crosslinking strategies, are covered. Additionally, the antimicrobial properties and biomedical applications of electrospinnable biopolymers are analyzed.
