Experimental Evaluation of Data-driven Signal Level Estimation in Cellular Networks

Melisa Lopez et al.

Summary: Accurately estimating signal levels experienced by user equipment along a movement route is crucial for ensuring the required service quality. This paper investigates using aggregated measurements from multiple User Equipments (UE) to estimate the serving Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) along a route, finding that data variability significantly impacts the accuracy of data-driven estimation. By compensating for certain factors such as UE orientation and characteristics, the standard deviation of the estimation error can be reduced from approximately 8dB to 4dB.

Characterization of Radio Signal Strength Fluctuations in Road Scenarios for Cellular Vehicular Network Planning in LTE

Matias Toril et al.

Summary: This study presents a comprehensive analysis of radio signal strength fluctuations on roads in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) system through drive tests, revealing large deviations of signal level at the same geographical location, with up to 23 dB observed. The impact of different factors on the signal level received from the serving cell is assessed, providing valuable insights for improving road coverage for connected car applications.
