Relation of First and Total Recurrent Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Events to Increased Lipoprotein (a) Levels Among Statin Treated Adults With Cardiovascular Disease

Nathan D. Wong et al.

Summary: The study revealed that individuals with elevated lipoprotein(a) levels in cardiovascular disease patients have a higher risk of first and total ASCVD events under statin therapy.

Lipoprotein(a) Where Do We Stand? From the Physiopathology to Innovative Terapy

Gabriella Iannuzzo et al.

Summary: Various epidemiologic studies have shown a strong association between elevated lipoprotein(a) levels and cardiovascular disease, independent of other known risk factors. While screening for Lp(a) in the general population is not recommended, statins are key in lipid lowering therapy but have limited efficacy on Lp(a) levels. Treatment options for high Lp(a) levels are currently limited, with apheresis being the most effective and well-tolerated option. Promising new therapies such as antisense oligonucleotides have shown potential to significantly reduce Lp(a) levels.

Summary: This study suggests that there is a linear relationship between Lp(a) concentrations and ASCVD risk, with differences in concentrations across racial subgroups but similar associated risks. High Lp(a) concentrations are also associated with incident ASCVD.
