Effects of delayed repair of peripheral nerve injury on the spatial distribution of motor endplates in target muscle

Dong-Dong Li et al.

Summary: Motor endplates (MEPs), important sites for motor neurons and skeletal muscle communication, are distributed in an organized pattern of lamellae in muscle. Delayed repair of peripheral nerve injury leads to MEP degeneration and unsatisfactory functional recovery. This study found that delayed repair can restore the spatial distribution of MEPs after 1 and 3 months, but negatively affects the homogeneity and total number of MEPs in the lamellar clusters.

Bioinspired supramolecular nanofiber hydrogel through self-assembly of biphenyl-tripeptide for tissue engineering

Yong Sun et al.

Summary: A new class of biphenyl-tripeptides capable of self-assembling into robust supramolecular nanofiber hydrogels was developed. Molecular dynamics simulations revealed that reasonable hydrogen bond interactions and the presence of FF brick promoted the formation of the hydrogels. Rheology and spectroscopy analysis were used to analyze the biomechanical properties and intermolecular interactions of the hydrogels, and optimize the amino acid sequence. The results demonstrated the good biocompatibility and biological activity of these supramolecular nanofiber hydrogels, making them promising for applications in regenerative medicine.

Self-assembled peptide nanorod vaccine confers protection against influenza A virus

Ximena Zottig et al.

Summary: Proteinaceous nanostructures, particularly synthetic beta-sheet self-assembling peptides, show promise in developing subunit vaccines. By controlling the self-assembly process using electrostatic capping motifs, uniform nanorods displaying specific epitopes have been successfully created. These nanorods are efficiently taken up by antigen presenting cells, activate immune responses, and provide protection against lethal infections, demonstrating their potential as a versatile delivery platform for subunit vaccines.

Peptide-Based Hydrogels and Nanogels for Delivery of Doxorubicin

Enrico Gallo et al.

Summary: Peptide-based hydrogels and nanogels loaded with Doxorubicin or its liposomal formulation were successfully synthesized and characterized with high drug loading content and stability. The relative peptide composition was found to influence drug release kinetics and cell viability. The different cellular localization of the drug delivered through hydrogels and nanogels suggests alternative internalization mechanisms, showing potential for drug delivery applications.

Summary: Hydrogels made from self-assembling peptides offer advantages in tissue engineering, but are currently limited by potential toxicity and harsh gelation conditions.
