Toxic marine microalgae and noxious blooms in the Mediterranean Sea: A contribution to the Global HAB Status Report

Adriana Zingone et al.

Summary: The spatial distribution of toxic marine microalgal species and the impacts of harmful algal events in the Mediterranean Sea were reviewed based on OBIS databases. Mainly affecting human health and aquaculture, toxicity-related events are not frequent in the MS.

The Tsunami Caused by the 30 October 2020 Samos (Aegean Sea) Mw7.0 Earthquake: Hydrodynamic Features, Source Properties and Impact Assessment from Post-Event Field Survey and Video Records

Ioanna Triantafyllou et al.

Summary: Based on field surveys and various data, this study discovered that the tsunami was generated by seismic activity; the tsunami waves near Samos Island were the largest in the Aegean Sea since 1956; the height of the tsunami waves varied in different locations, possibly due to geographical factors.

Phenotypic plasticity under rapid global changes: The intrinsic force for future seagrasses survival

Jessica Pazzaglia et al.

Summary: Coastal oceans are vulnerable to rapid environmental changes, which have significant impacts on entire ecosystems. Seagrasses, as key ecosystem engineering species, are particularly susceptible to fast environmental changes. The analysis of phenotypic plasticity can provide important insights into how seagrasses respond and adapt to environmental shifts.

Testing Tsunami Inundation Maps for Evacuation Planning in Italy

Roberto Tonini et al.

Summary: Inundation maps are essential for coastal risk management, especially for designing evacuation plans and maps. Italy uses a probabilistic tsunami hazard model to inform inundation maps, recommending an average return period of 2500 years and the 84th percentile of model uncertainty as design hazard intensity. Regional-scale tsunami hazard models are used to convert hazards into design run-up and create evacuation maps.

The Making of the NEAM Tsunami Hazard Model 2018 (NEAMTHM18)

Roberto Basili et al.

Summary: NEAMTHM18 is a probabilistic tsunami hazard model covering the NEAM region, developed through three phases of project. The hazard assessment workflow is structured in Steps and Levels, allowing for quantification of hazard uncertainty. It provides documentation and information for designing evacuation maps for tsunami early warning.

Comprehensive bathymetry and intertidal topography of the Amazon estuary

Alice Cesar Fassoni-Andrade et al.

Summary: This study presents a high-resolution dataset of the topography and bathymetry of the Amazon River estuary, utilizing spaceborne remote sensing data and processed river depth data. The dataset has been extensively validated, showing high vertical accuracy, and can promote the usage of database in studies such as hydrodynamic modeling and geomorphological assessments.
