This review paper highlights the importance of the transgenic 5xFAD mouse model in studying the main mechanisms underlying cognitive and mental disorders in Alzheimer's disease and their relationship with the cerebral microenvironment.
Alzheimer's disease is the most common neurodegenerative disease worldwide, with significant negative social and economic consequences. Despite numerous studies of the pathogenesis of the disease, neuropathological mechanisms remain completely unclear, and modern methods of treatment are not sufficiently effective. In recent decades, genetic models of Alzheimer's disease in rodents have been used to study in detail the molecular mechanisms of the disease. This is critical for her early diagnosis and effective therapy. Taking into account the significant effect of beta-amyloid on the manifestation of behavioral disorders and the development of cognitive dysfunction, in this review we present a detailed characterization of the transgenic 5xFAD mouse model as the most valuable and necessary tool for studying the main mechanisms underlying cognitive and mental disorders in Alzheimer's disease, as well as their relationship with the cerebral microenvironment.
