3,5-Dimethoxy-4-benzoic acid (syringic acid) a natural phenolic acid reduces reactive oxygen species in differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes

Cordelia Mano John et al.

Summary: The study found that syringic acid significantly increased the levels of glutathione, superoxide dismutase, and catalase in mature adipocytes, and reduced ROS stress levels by inhibiting peroxide production and decreasing the expression of NADPH oxidase 4. It suggests that in addition to inhibiting adipogenesis, syringic acid can effectively reduce ROS stress in mature adipocytes by upregulating levels of intracellular antioxidants and decreasing levels of NOX4.
