Dual drug delivery system based on pH-sensitive silk fibroin/alginate nanoparticles entrapped in PNIPAM hydrogel for treating severe infected burn wound

Fatemeh Rezaei et al.

Summary: A hybrid system was developed for treating chronic burn wound infections, using pH-sensitive vancomycin loaded nanoparticles embedded in a hydrogel containing epidermal growth factor. The system controlled the release rates of antibiotics and growth factors, showing promising results in promoting fibroblast proliferation, wound healing, and reducing wound infection in an in vivo model. It preserved the bioactivity of released compounds and showed potential for treating severe wound infections.
