An integrated policy framework and plan of action to prevent and control plant invasions in India

Achyut Kumar Banerjee et al.

Summary: Biological invasions pose a significant challenge for biodiversity conservation, ecosystem health, and sustainable livelihoods globally. Developing countries face obstacles such as poor response capacities, lack of coordination, heavy dependence on biological resources, and low public awareness in implementing policies to control invasive species. This study in India aims to establish a policy framework considering diverse interests and current trade practices of invasive alien plant species, proposing interventions for international and domestic trading to ensure effective compliance and coordination among stakeholders.

Different factors influence naturalization and invasion processes - A case study of Indian alien flora provides management insights

Achyut Kumar Banerjee et al.

Summary: The study found that invasive alien plants have significant advantages in naturalized range, number of uses, and specific leaf area. Variables such as native and naturalized range sizes, number of uses, and growth form have a direct influence on successful naturalization, while longer minimum residence time helps in overcoming dispersal barriers. Invasion success is directly influenced by minimum residence time and number of uses.
