This paper reviews an expansion technique for 60-GHz-band beamforming array antenna in mobile wireless terminal application, utilizing two techniques for expanding the beamforming area in terms of phi and theta angles. The proposed technique is verified by 3-D electromagnetic field simulation and measurement, confirming the successful expansion of the beamforming area for desired angles.
This invited paper reviews an expansion technique of the beamforming area for 60-GHz-band beamforming array antenna in mobile wireless terminal application. Two expansion technique for phi and theta angles are reviewed. Two dipole subarrays are utilized for phi angle expansion. On the other hand, dipole and patch subarrays are employed for theta angle expansion. The proposed technique is verified by 3-D electromagnetic field simulation and measurement. We confirmed the beamforming area was successfully expanded for desired angle by the simulated and measured results.
