Gendered Perceptions of Intimate Partner Violence Normality: An Experimental Study

Karlijn F. Kuijpers et al.

Summary: This study explores how the type of violence employed and the gender dynamics within the couple affect young adults' perceptions of intimate partner violence (IPV). Findings show that scenarios describing more serious types of IPV and featuring a male perpetrator and female victim received lower ratings of normality. Gender differences in perceptions were found, with prior IPV experiences potentially influencing perceptions, particularly among female respondents.
