Summary: This article evaluates the governance interventions of corporations in the oil industry in Nigeria's Delta region and argues that corporate social responsibility practices based on Western approaches may not effectively contribute to the sustainable development of host-communities. The social responsibility engagements of corporations in the Niger Delta, influenced by a pro-West philosophy, result in an ineffective business responsibility engagement as a development strategy.
