Sociopolitical Participation Among Marginalized Youth: Do Political Identification and Ideology Matter?

Aixa D. Marchand et al.

Summary: Engaging youth in the political system has the potential to drive social change and ensure the future of democracy. Research shows that youth who identify as Republicans demonstrate slightly higher levels of political participation compared to liberal counterparts, and this participation is not significantly influenced by political ideology or identification. Political ideology and identification explain less than 5% of variance in sociopolitical action, suggesting that participation is largely independent of political leaning.
