Prediction of axial load capacity of rectangular concrete-filled steel tube columns using machine learning techniques

Tien-Thinh Le et al.

Summary: This study aims to develop a novel equation for predicting the axial load of rectangular concrete-filled steel tubular columns using soft computing techniques. An artificial neural network model was developed and optimized based on a dataset of 880 experimental tests. The performance of the developed model was found to be superior to current codes and existing empirical equations. Additionally, an Excel-based GUI was provided for practical application in designing and teaching the axial behavior of CFST columns.

Developing GEP tree-based, neuro-swarm, and whale optimization models for evaluation of bearing capacity of concrete-filled steel tube columns

Payam Sarir et al.

Summary: This paper investigates advanced methods for predicting the bearing capacity of concrete-filled steel tube columns, comparing the results of a GEP-based tree equation with a hybrid model of PSO-ANN. The study demonstrates that GEP provides higher performance compared to PSO-ANN. In the optimization phase, the implementation of the whale optimization algorithm significantly maximizes the bearing capacity of CFST columns.

Estimation of axial load-carrying capacity of concrete-filled steel tubes using surrogate models

Hai-Bang Ly et al.

Summary: The main objective of this study was to estimate the load-carrying capacity of CFST under axial compression using hybrid AI algorithms, with ANFIS system and various optimization methods compared. The results indicated that the ANFIS system optimized by PSO was the most effective and robust model, and the minor axis length and thickness of the steel tube contributed the most to the axial compression load-carrying capacity of CFST.
