Incoterms, an international trade terms publication, has undergone eight revisions since its initial publication in 1936. The latest revision, Incoterms 2020, came into effect on January 1, 2020. Similar to the seventh revision (Incoterms 2010), Incoterms 2020 provides eleven rules for trade (seven for multi-modal transport and four for maritime transport), but it replaces the DAT rule with the new DPU rule. While Incoterms 2020 brings improvements and better organization, it also introduces some critical and controversial issues.
