NIR-II AIEgens: A Win-Win Integration towards Bioapplications

Wenhan Xu et al.

Summary: NIR-II AIEgens enabled by aggregation-induced emission luminogens have emerged as a promising field for high-performance imaging, overcoming limitations in penetration depth and fluorescence efficiency. Some NIR-II AIEgens demonstrate dual-mode imaging capabilities and guided photothermal therapy, improving diagnostic accuracy and providing an efficient platform for theranostics. This review highlights recent efforts in exploiting NIR-II AIEgens, discussing molecular design strategies, bioapplications, and presenting current challenges and future prospects for diverse applications.

Aggregation-induced emission fluorophores based on strong electron-acceptor 2,2′-(anthracene-9,10-diylidene) dimalononitrile for biological imaging in the NIR-II window

Zhicheng Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, three novel donor-acceptor-donor type second near-infrared AIE fluorophores based on strong electron-acceptor have been successfully developed for bioimaging. These fluorophores exhibit good photostability and high resolution for mouse ear vessel imaging after encapsulation in nanoparticles with good biocompatibility.
