Excitonic theory of doping-dependent optical response in atomically thin semiconductors

Florian Katsch et al.

Summary: This study develops a fully microscopic theory to describe the manipulation of excitonic properties in atomically thin semiconductors through doping. By solving a many-body Schrodinger equation, the access to trions and a continuum of scattering states is obtained. The influence of doping on exciton resonances and the identification of excited-state trion resonances are revealed.

Probing negatively charged and neutral excitons in MoS2/hBN and hBN/MoS2/hBN van der Waals heterostructures

J. Jadczak et al.

Summary: The study reveals that van der Waals heterostructures assembled from hBN-encapsulated monolayer MoS2 exhibit subtle optical and spin-valley properties, showing characteristics of neutral and charged excitons. The effective excitonic g-factor significantly depends on the electron concentration and temperature, with differences among structures.

Many-Body Effect on Optical Properties of Monolayer Molybdenum Diselenide

Summary: This study observed different Fermi polaron modes in excitons in monolayer MoSe2, supporting the applicability of the Fermi polaron model to excitons in monolayer TMDs. The contrasting energy shift and gate dependence of polaron energy splitting between different exciton states provide evidence for this conclusion.

Exciton-polaron Rydberg states in monolayer MoSe2 and WSe2

Erfu Liu et al.

Summary: The study involves measuring the reflection and photoluminescence of monolayer MoSe2 and WSe2 devices to observe gate-tunable exciton polarons. It shows the contradiction between the trion picture and the robust excited states, indicating the presence of exciton-polaron nature in both ground and excited excitonic states in charged monolayer MoSe2 and WSe2.

Spectral asymmetry of phonon sideband luminescence in monolayer and bilayer WSe2

Victor Funk et al.

Summary: This experimental study investigates temperature-dependent spectral line shapes of phonon sideband emission from dark excitons in monolayer and bilayer WSe2. The research reveals a pronounced asymmetry in the phonon-assisted luminescence and demonstrates distinct spectral profiles compared to bright excitons. The findings contribute to understanding phonon-assisted recombination of momentum-dark excitons and provide insights into the thermal distribution of finite-momentum excitons in atomically thin semiconductors with indirect band gaps.

Competitive screening and band gap renormalization in n-type monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides

S. Samaneh Ataei et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the impact of gate-induced carriers on many-body interactions in monolayer TMDs, shedding light on the competition between screening and band gap renormalization. By accurately calculating the band gap renormalization of electron-doped monolayer MoS2 and WS2, as well as the excitonic states of low-doped systems, we demonstrate the role of electronic band structure in determining exciton energies in these materials. Our results offer insights into engineering optoelectronic devices with desired features by understanding carrier-induced effects in monolayer TMDs.

Enhancement of exciton valley polarization in monolayer MoS2 induced by scattering

Yueh-Chun Wu et al.

Summary: We report scattering-induced valley polarization enhancement in monolayer molybdenum disulfide. The improvements are achieved through thermally activated and charge doping-introduced scattering, with 7- and 12-fold enhancements, respectively. Disruptions to valley pseudospin precession caused by rapid modulation of exciton momentum explain this counterintuitive effect, while the impact on valley coherence differs between thermally activated and charge doping-induced scattering.

Electron-exciton interactions in the exciton-polaron problem

Dmitry K. Efimkin et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that the absorption properties of moderately doped two-dimensional semiconductors can be described in terms of exciton polarons, which exhibit classical charge-dipole behavior in the long-range limit and are only slightly modified for moderate doping. The dependence on doping can be well captured by a model with a phenomenological contact potential.
