The BodyMind Approach® to support students in higher education: Relationships between student stress, medically unexplained physical symptoms and mental health

Helen Payne

Summary: In the UK, students at higher education providers are increasingly experiencing mental ill-health due to stress factors, MUS, and their impact on mental health. The BodyMind Approach (TBMA) is proposed as an innovative intervention to address the mind-body experience of MUS. Research shows that TBMA, framed as self-management of symptom distress, may be a more accessible approach to improving student mental health in institutions.

From Therapeutic Factors to Mechanisms of Change in the Creative Arts Therapies: A Scoping Review

Martina de Witte et al.

Summary: Research on creative arts therapies, such as art therapy, music therapy, and dance/movement therapy, has shown positive impacts on psychological and physiological outcomes. However, there is still limited understanding of the specific therapeutic factors responsible for these effects. A scoping review of 67 studies was conducted to identify therapeutic factors unique to each CATs discipline, as well as common factors across all psychotherapy approaches, leading to the proposal of a framework consisting of 19 domains of CATs therapeutic factors.

Movement Based Experiential Learning and Competency Development in Dance/Movement Therapy Graduate Education: Early Practitioner Perspectives

Eri Millrod et al.

Summary: The study found that movement based experiential learning is crucial for developing competencies related to clinical practice and professional development in DMT students. However, it was less effective in cultivating competencies in multiculturalism and theoretical knowledge. The research also identified new competencies related to emotional intelligence that are unique to student experiences in MBEL.
