Biogas upgrading to fuel grade methane using pressure swing adsorption: Parametric sensitivity analysis on an industrial scale

Ammar Ali Abd et al.

Summary: This study investigates the upgrading of biogas to fuel-grade methane using PSA technology and analyzes the effects of different design parameters on methane purity and recovery. By comparing experimental data with simulated results, it is found that the breakthrough curves, temperature responses, and process performances are in good agreement. Among various adsorbents tested, CMS-3 K shows the highest biomethane purity and recovery rates, meeting biogas quality standards. The developed model demonstrates great competence in predicting the performance of PSA cycle for biogas upgrading.

Production of negative-emission biomethane by twin double-bed pressure swing adsorption with tail gas sequestration

Ayub Golmakani et al.

Summary: A new biogas upgrading technology has been proposed, which can produce carbon-negative biomethane with great potential for application. The technology utilizes porous polymeric beads as adsorbents for pressure swing adsorption without the need for vacuum. Through simulation prediction, high purity CO2 separation and efficient CH4 recovery can be achieved.

Understanding the Effect of Water on CO2 Adsorption

Joel M. Kolle et al.

Summary: Carbon capture from large sources and ambient air is an effective strategy to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. Among the various technologies, CO2 adsorption is a popular method due to its energy efficiency. The presence of water vapor in air and industrial gas streams rich in CO2 has a significant impact on CO2 adsorption, with water acting as both an inhibitor and promoter depending on the adsorbent used. Further research is needed to fully understand the effects of water on CO2 capture using different materials.

Effect of acidic products from degradation of N-methyldiethanolamine amine on CO2/H2S capturing from natural gas

Ammar Ali Abd et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of heat-stable salts on CO2/H2S separation from natural gas using 45 wt% of MDEA amine. It found that acidic products from MDEA oxidation can reduce the pH of the solution and acid gas loading, while also lowering the energy demand in the reboiler. Certain acids like thiosulfuric, formic, and thiocyanic acids acted as promoters in the desorption process and reduced the solvent makeup flowrate significantly.
