On the friction effect in the perforation of metallic plates by rigid projectiles

Z. Rosenberg et al.

Summary: The effect of friction on the penetration of a rigid sharp-nosed projectile through a metallic plate is analyzed in this work. A velocity-dependent friction coefficient is used, which has non-vanishing values only for low sliding velocities. Friction's contribution is apparent only when the impact velocity is close to the ballistic limit velocity of the projectile/plate pair.
