Summary: High frequency acoustic vibrations of Au nanoplates were used to probe fluid properties through pump-probe microscopy experiments. The presence of viscoelastic effects in high-viscosity solvents was confirmed through the analysis of Brillouin oscillations. Detection and analysis of viscous damping in liquids are crucial for understanding energy dissipation mechanisms and developing applications of nanomechanical resonators for fluid environments.

Acoustic Vibrations and Energy Dissipation Mechanisms for Lithographically Fabricated Plasmonic Nanostructures Revealed by Single-Particle Transient Extinction Spectroscopy

Summary: Acoustic vibrations in lithographically fabricated Au and Al nanostructures were studied using single-particle transient extinction spectroscopy, revealing a blue shift in frequency due to the presence of a substrate and providing insights into the binding strength between Au nanostructures and the substrate. Comparison of the acoustic properties and quality factor of Au and Al nanostructures suggests internal defects dominate the energy dissipation pathway in these polycrystalline structures. This research sheds light on the optomechanical properties of nanostructures fabricated by electron-beam lithography.

Gigahertz Optomechanical Photon-Phonon Transduction between Nanostructure Lines

Summary: This study demonstrates optically coupled nanolocalized gigahertz surface phonon transduction using gold nanowire emitter and linear gold nanorod receiver arrays, with applications in nanosensing. The efficiency of surface phonon detection is highly dependent on the orientation of the nanorods with respect to the phonon wave vector and their acoustic resonance spectrum, which constrains detectable modes. This research explores the response of individual optoacoustic and acousto-optic transducers up to 10 GHz.
