Effects of lobetyolin on xanthine oxidase activity in vitro and in vivo: weak and mixed inhibition

In-Soo Yoon et al.

Summary: The study found that LBT weakly inhibits xanthine oxidase (XO) activity through a mixed type mechanism, and the effect of oral LBT on serum XO activity in hyperuricemic mice is limited. However, oral LBT at a dose of 50 mg/kg significantly reduces hepatic XO activity in vivo.

Comparative pharmacokinetic and bioavailability study of lobetyolin in rats after administration of lobetyolin and Codonopsis pilosula extract by ultra-performance LC-tandem mass spectrometry

Jiajia Dong et al.

Summary: A rapid ultra-performance LC-tandem mass spectrometry method was developed and validated to determine lobetyolin in rat plasma, showing differences in bioavailability between lobetyolin in CP extract and in its pure form. These findings suggest that the bioavailability of lobetyolin in CP extract is higher.

Predictive Study of the Active Ingredients and Potential Targets of Codonopsis pilosula for the Treatment of Osteosarcoma via Network Pharmacology

Yu-Bao Gong et al.

Summary: This study used a network pharmacology approach to explore the molecular mechanisms of Dangshen in the treatment of osteosarcoma, identifying 15 active compounds linked to 48 therapeutic targets. The gene enrichment analysis showed that Dangshen may produce a therapeutic effect in osteosarcoma by regulating pathways associated with DNA damage, cell proliferation, apoptosis, invasion, and migration.

Anticancer Properties of Lobetyolin, an Essential Component of Radix Codonopsis (Dangshen)

Christian Bailly

Summary: This review discusses the anticancer properties of Codonopsis extracts, LBT, and structural analogs, highlighting that LBT contributes to drug-induced apoptosis and tumor growth inhibition by down-regulating glutamine metabolism. Furthermore, LBT significantly reduces the expression of the amino acid transporter ASCT2, indicating potential as a target for anticancer therapy.
