Soliton-like unipolar objects in nonequilibrium dissipative media

Summary: This study focuses on electromagnetic pulses without a carrier frequency propagating in a system of multilevel atoms, deriving nonlinear integro-differential equations of the 'reaction-diffusion' type. It found one-dimensional soliton-like solutions in the form of unipolar pulses, showing that such pulses can be formed in a nonequilibrium medium and transfer the medium to other metastable states depending on input conditions. The propagation of these soliton-like signals is accompanied by a change in the populations of quantum states of atoms.

Analytical theory of the propagation of a dissipative soliton in a nonequilibrium resonant medium

Summary: The study derived a nonlinear integrodifferential equation to describe the propagation of optical pulses in a medium, finding a stable solution in the form of a dissipative optical soliton with an asymmetric temporal profile. The duration of this soliton is shown to be much longer than the characteristic phase relaxation time but much shorter than the energy relaxation time. It is noted that the formation of such a soliton requires the presence of linear losses and the found soliton solution qualitatively coincides with the dissipative soliton recently discovered experimentally in a laser microcavity.
