Simultaneous removal of antibiotic and nutrients via Prosopis juliflora activated carbon column: Performance evaluation, effect of operational parameters and breakthrough modeling

S. V. Manjunath et al.

Summary: The study found that the Thomas model was better suited for predicting the breakthrough characteristics of MET, PO43-, and NO3- removal by PJAC. In multi-component systems, antagonistic behavior in sorption was observed, resulting in a lower adsorption capacity compared to the mono-component system.

An approach towards Zero-Waste wastewater technology: Fluoxetine adsorption on biochar and removal by the sulfate radical

Silvia Escudero-Curiel et al.

Summary: The study focused on the adsorption and removal of pharmaceuticals in wastewater using an innovative technology based on the principles of Zero-Waste. Activators (Fe2+ and citric acid) were found to be necessary in liquid media to enhance pollutant removal, while only complexing agents were required for in situ removal onto biochar. The developed process showed efficient removal of pollutants in fixed-bed column assays, confirming its suitability as a viable alternative in wastewater treatment.

Tetracycline removal from model aqueous solutions by pretreated waste Streptomyces fradiae biomass

Gergana Kirova et al.

Summary: This study utilized pretreated waste Streptomyces fradiae biomass as a biosorbent to remove tetracycline from aqueous solutions. The biosorption process was well described by Langmuir and Freundlich models, with the monolayer biosorption capacity for TC determined to be 38.61 mg g(-1). Additionally, the biosorption kinetics followed pseudo-second-order kinetics.
