Metal Sulfide Thin Films with Tunable Nanoporosity for Photocatalytic Applications

Summary: In this study, the length of the alkyl ligand was explored as an efficient tool to control the formation and nanoporosity of zinc sulfide thin films. It was found that the decomposition temperature of the metal xanthates, different growth regimes of the nanocrystals, and mesophase formation were mainly responsible for the changes in the structural properties and nanoporosity of the final ZnS films.

A General Polymer-Oriented Acid-Mediated Self-Assembly Approach toward Crystalline Mesoporous Metal Sulfides

Summary: A new method for synthesizing mesoporous metal sulfides is proposed in this study, where PEI serves as a pore-forming agent and acetic acid as a pH regulator and coordination agent to control the interactions between inorganic precursors and thioacetamide. This method allows for a high degree of control over the crystal and porous structure of MMSs, leading to high surface areas and pore volumes in the obtained materials. Additionally, mesoporous Zn0.56Cd0.44S exhibits superior photocatalytic H-2 generation rate due to the abundant mesopores and homojunctions.
