Impacts of financial openness on economic complexity: Cross-country evidence

Yuyuan Yu et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of financial openness, human capital, institutional quality, banking industry concentration, and other factors on economic complexity using a panel data of 120 economies from 1996 to 2016. The results show that increasing financial openness can significantly enhance economic complexity, but the effects vary across country groups and industries.

Accounting for the combined impacts of natural resources rent, income level, and energy consumption on environmental quality of G7 economies: a panel quantile regression approach

Bright Akwasi Gyamfi et al.

Summary: This study utilizes multiple empirical methods to investigate the impact of natural resource rents and energy consumption on the environmental quality of G7 economies, revealing a significant positive relationship between natural resource rents and pollution, as well as adverse and significant effects of renewable energy consumption and positive effects of fossil fuel energy consumption on carbon dioxide emissions. Additionally, income levels combined with fossil fuel use strongly affect environmental degradation, while natural resource rents Granger cause clean energy consumption within the G7 countries.

The asymmetric effect of renewable energy and trade on consumption-based CO2 emissions: The case of Italy

Minhaj Ali et al.

Summary: This study fills the gap in the literature on consumption-based CO2 emissions adjusted for international trade in the case of Italy. It reveals a positive asymmetric effect of imports on consumption-based CO2 emissions, while exports, renewable consumption, and economic growth reduce Italy's consumption-based CO2 emissions. These findings are supported by frequency domain causality tests and highlight the importance of eco-friendly policies for a greener future.

Consumption-based carbon emissions in Mexico: An analysis using the dual adjustment approach

Xiaojuan He et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of financial development and globalization on consumption-based carbon emissions in Mexico using a newly developed dual adjustment approach. The findings suggest that financial development and globalization improve environmental quality, while energy consumption and economic growth deteriorate it. Trade openness does not have a significant impact on environmental quality.

Environmental degradation & role of financialisation, economic development, industrialisation and trade liberalisation

Muhammad Ali Nasir et al.

Summary: The study investigates the determinants of environmental degradation in Australia through a comprehensive framework of EKC and STIRPAT, analyzing the impacts of multiple factors of socioeconomic development on CO2 emissions. Short-term bidirectional causality between economic growth, energy consumption, industrialization, and stock market development with carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions is found. However, long-term positive impacts of financial development, energy consumption, and trade openness on CO2 emissions are also observed, while industrialization is not found to significantly affect CO2 emissions.

Taking Venezuela back to the sustainability path: The role of financial development and economic integration in low-carbon transition

Chinazaekpere Nwani

Summary: The study highlights the importance of the connection between environmental protection and sustainable development in Venezuela, emphasizing the need for attention to policy options for sustainable economic growth. Through dynamic ARDL analysis, it is found that financial development, trade integration and financial integration conditions can impact CO2 emissions in various ways, providing policy options for carbon mitigation in the economy. This emphasizes the necessity of financial development, trade integration and control of cross-border financial flows for accelerating a transition to low-carbon development in Venezuela.

Yijuan Shen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of natural resources rent, green investment, financial development, and energy consumption on carbon emissions in China. Results show that energy consumption and financial development have a positive impact on carbon emissions, while green investment is negatively correlated and natural resources rent is positively associated with carbon emissions. Recommendations include strengthening natural resource tax laws and promoting green investment and environmental policies to control carbon emissions.

Carbon emissions determinants and forecasting: Evidence from G6 countries

Duc Khuong Nguyen et al.

Summary: The study found that economic growth, capital market expansion, and trade openness are major drivers of carbon emissions in developed economies, while stock market capitalization and foreign direct investment have weak negative effects on carbon emissions. Additionally, enhancing the model with energy consumption and oil prices improves forecasting performance. The empirical findings have important policy implications for climate commitments.

Environmental cost of natural resource rents based on production and consumption inventories of carbon emissions: Assessing the role of institutional quality

Chinazaekpere Nwani et al.

Summary: The study reveals that natural resource rents have a significant impact on the carbon emissions of low quality of government (QoG) countries, with a positive effect, while high QoG countries show a negative impact. Economic growth and import trade have a stronger negative impact on the environment in low QoG countries.
