Enhanced recombination next to laser-patterned lines in CIGSe solar cells revealed by spectral and time-resolved photoluminescence

Christof Schultz et al.

Summary: Laser-based patterning of CIGSe solar cell absorber layers introduces material modifications near the patterned lines, affecting the composition, electrical properties, and efficiency. Cu vacancies and anti-sites formed by the laser pulses create additional energy states in the band gap. Despite the reduction in charge carrier lifetime near the scribed lines, laser-based patterning outperforms needle-based patterning.

Multi-stacked transparent-electrode for transparent photovoltaics

Sangho Kim et al.

Summary: Transparent photovoltaics utilize light to generate electric power and have the potential to be used in transparent windows as invisible power generators. By using multi-stacked transparent-electrode (MTE) with Ni film, improvements in open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current density have been achieved. The functional transparent-electrode is a key factor in enhancing TPV performance with minimal trade-offs in transmittance.

Spectral engineering of ultrathin germanium solar cells for combined photovoltaic and photosynthesis

N. Osterthun et al.

Summary: A spectrally selective solar cell has been developed for use in agrivoltaic systems, greenhouses, and photo-bioreactors, allowing for the combination of photovoltaic and photosynthesis requirements on the same land through deliberate light sharing design. The solar cell uses a Fabry-Perot-type multilayer resonator as a back reflector to tune the transmission spectrum for specific absorption needs of algae and plants, offering potential for further optimization in optical loss mechanisms.
