Heteronuclear Long-Range Rydberg Molecules

Michael Peper et al.

Summary: In this study, homonuclear Cs-2, K-2, and heteronuclear CsK long-range Rydberg molecules were formed in a dual-species magneto-optical trap for K-39 and Cs-133 by one-photon UV photoassociation. The different ground-state-density dependence of homo- and heteronuclear photoassociation rates and the detection of stable molecular ions provided clarification. Bound-bound millimeter-wave spectroscopy of long-range Rydberg molecules was utilized to access molecular states not accessible by one-photon photoassociation, serving as a benchmark for the development of theoretical models.

Transport of a Single Cold Ion Immersed in a Bose-Einstein Condensate

T. Dieterle et al.

Summary: The study investigates the transport dynamics of a single low-energy ionic impurity in a Bose-Einstein condensate by implanting the impurity using fast electric field pulses. The results show diffusive transport properties of the impurity and allow for the measurement of its mobility through comparison with simulations. This research opens up a new path for studying dynamics of charged quantum impurities in ultracold matter.

Synthetic Dimension-Induced Conical Intersections in Rydberg Molecules

Frederic Hummel et al.

Summary: This study observed a series of conical intersections in the potential energy curves governing both the collision between a Rydberg atom and a ground-state atom and the structure of Rydberg molecules. By using the electronic energy of the Rydberg atom as a synthetic dimension, the von Neumann-Wigner theorem was circumvented. These conical intersections can occur when certain conditions are met, and have a significant impact on the rate of ultracold l-changing collisions.

Long-Range Atom-Ion Rydberg Molecule: A Novel Molecular Binding Mechanism

Markus Deiss et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel binding mechanism between a neutral Rydberg atom and an atomic ion at a large internuclear distance. It discusses important properties of the long-range atom-ion Rydberg molecule, as well as methods for producing and detecting it. The unusual properties of this molecule offer interesting prospects for studies of wave packet dynamics in engineered potential energy landscapes.

Long-range Rydberg-atom-ion molecules of Rb and Cs

A. Duspayev et al.

Summary: A novel type of Rydberg dimer is proposed, consisting of a Rydberg-state atom bound to a distant positive ion through long-range electric-multipole interaction. The potential energy curves exhibit deep, long-range wells that support multiple vibrational states of Rydberg-atom-ion molecules. Experimental considerations for the realization of these molecules are discussed, including photoassociation in weak and strong optical-coupling regimes.

Rydberg atom-ion collisions in cold environments

Henrik Hirzler et al.

Summary: Theoretical investigation on low-energy collisions of Rydberg atom-ion systems reveals that classical treatment is appropriate for the dynamics at the lowest reachable temperatures, and the charge exchange cross section deviates from the n(4) geometric scaling in cold collisions. Influence of ionic core repulsion and variations in electron-core potential models are found for low-energy collisions.

Microscopic electronic structure tomography of Rydberg macrodimers

Simon Hollerith et al.

Summary: Using quantum gas microscopy to position and resolve atoms in Rydberg macrodimer states solves challenges in controlling and studying molecules, providing unique access to the molecular frame. Photoassociation studies allow full control over the molecular orientation relative to an applied magnetic field, the excitation light polarization, and the initial atomic state, leading to electronic structure tomography of the molecular state. Additionally, the observation of dependencies and orientation-dependent Zeeman shift in the macrodimer state reveals significant influences on the electrostatic binding potential, offering new perspectives for improving Rydberg dressing schemes.

Electric-field-induced wave-packet dynamics and geometrical rearrangement of trilobite Rydberg molecules

Frederic Hummel et al.

Summary: This study investigates the quantum dynamics of ultra-long-range trilobite molecules under homogeneous electric fields, deriving an analytic expression for the adiabatic electronic potential energy surface. Utilizing the multiconfigurational Hartree method, the molecular quantum dynamics are explored, revealing opportunities for controlling molecular configurations, such as adjusting bond lengths through periodic changes in electric field strength. Intrawell and interwell oscillations, as well as angular oscillations and rotations of probability densities, are observed depending on the initial wave packet.
