Short-term transcutaneous non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation may reduce disease activity and pro-inflammatory cytokines in rheumatoid arthritis: results of a pilot study

Summary: In patients with active rheumatoid arthritis, transcutaneous non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (n-VNS) showed anti-inflammatory effects by reducing disease activity scores, C-reactive protein levels, and interferon-gamma. However, in patients with inactive disease, n-VNS did not affect disease activity scores, but led to a decrease in cardiac vagal tone and interleukin-10 levels.

Summary: Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (t-VNS) as an alternative method for treating neurological and psychiatric disorders was reviewed in this study for its efficacy, adverse effects, and technical features in epilepsy patients. The review included 10 studies with 350 patients, indicating a potential benefit of t-VNS for epilepsy patients, although no definite conclusions could be drawn due to study heterogeneity.

Targeted peripheral focused ultrasound stimulation attenuates obesity-induced metabolic and inflammatory dysfunctions

This research reveals the potential of hepatic focused ultrasound as a novel noninvasive approach for alleviating obesity and its associated complications.
