A new approach for the synthesis of keto acids has been proposed, which involves the ozonolytic cleavage of 1-alkylcycloalkenes in a mixture of methylene chloride and acetic acid, followed by the oxidation of peroxide ozonolysis products using 30% H2O2-SeO2.
