Connecting gasification with syngas fermentation: Comparison of the performance of lignin and beech wood

E. T. Liakakou et al.

Summary: The integration of gasification with syngas fermentation is in the early stages of development, focusing on defining gasification conditions that provide suitable syngas quality for fermentation. Balancing gasification conditions with minimal gas cleaning needs is crucial to improve economic feasibility.

Studies on Syngas Fermentation With Clostridium carboxidivorans in Stirred-Tank Reactors With Defined Gas Impurities

Anton Rueckel et al.

Summary: Syngas fermentation with acetogenic bacteria has shown promise in producing short- and medium-chain alcohols from CO-rich waste gases. However, the presence of impurities such as NH3, H2S, and NOx can inhibit microbial growth and product formation. NH3 and H2S had a positive effect on growth and alcohol production, while nitrate and nitrite reduced growth and alcohol concentrations. NOx components should be reduced or removed from syngas to optimize production processes.
