Ultrastrong Red Circularly Polarized Luminescence Promoted from Chiral Transfer and Intermolecular Forster Resonance Energy Transfer in Ternary Chiral Emissive Nematic Liquid Crystals

Kun Yao et al.

Summary: Chiral emissive liquid crystals (N*-LCs) have been shown to significantly enhance circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) signals due to a regular spiral arrangement of dyes. By doping AIE active donors and ME active acceptors into N-LCs, CPL-active ternary chiral emissive N-LCs (T-N*-LCs) are formed, which can emit strong red CPL through intermolecular energy transfer and chirality induction. This work provides an effective strategy for developing high g(lum) CPL materials.

Direct Visualization of Chiral Amplification of Chiral Aggregation Induced Emission Molecules in Nematic Liquid Crystals

Qing Xia et al.

Summary: This study provides a systematic exploration of chiral amplification of chiral aggregation induced emission (AIE) molecules in liquid crystals (LCs) from direct visualization of their co-assemblies at the nano scale to theoretical calculation of the molecular packing modes on a single molecular level. The direct visualization using AFM imaging revealed that chiral AIE molecules self-assembled into helical fibers to serve as the helical template for LCs to bind, forming co-assemblies with morphologies of pearled necklaces or thick rods. Theoretical calculations suggested that chiral AIE molecules were packed into left-handed helical fibers with empty space between neighboring molecules, providing binding sites for LCs.

Hot exciplexes in U-shaped TADF molecules with emission from locally excited states

A. Lennart Schleper et al.

Summary: The study proposes a method called hot exciplexes to achieve fast emission and high color purity simultaneously in modern opto-electronic devices. By coupling donor and acceptor moieties to an anthracene bridge, hot exciplexes with large T-1 to T-2 spacing can be produced, offering potential for improving the performance of TADF emitters.

Electric field, temperature and light-triggered triple dynamic circularly polarized luminescence switching in fluorescent cholesteric liquid crystals with a large dissymmetry factor

Peng Lu et al.

Summary: In this study, luminescent cholesteric liquid crystals were prepared by doping a photoresponsive chiral fluorescent guest into a nematic liquid crystal host to achieve dynamic switching of CPL properties. The obtained fluorescent cholesteric liquid crystals exhibit reversible assembly structure transformations and CPL signal regulation under external stimuli, with high fluorescence quantum yield under UV light irradiation.
