MtFULc controls inflorescence development by directly repressing MtTFL1 in Medicago truncatula

Pengcheng Zhang et al.

Summary: Flowering plants exhibit a wide range of inflorescence architectures that are crucial for seed yield and fruit production. Legume species, unlike the model eudicot Arabidopsis thaliana, have complex inflorescences. Recent studies in pea and Medicago have identified MADS-box transcription factors VEG1/PsFULc and MtFULc that play a key role in specifying secondary inflorescence meristem identity in compound inflorescences. The isolation and characterization of new mtfulc alleles in Medicago provide insights into how MtFULc represses MtTFL1 expression to control inflorescence development in a dose-dependent manner, along with coordination with MtTFL1 and MtPIM.
