Strain-stabilized superconductivity

J. P. Ruf et al.

Summary: The study successfully transformed a normal metal into a superconductor through the application of epitaxial strain, demonstrating the enhancement of superconducting properties by synthesizing RuO2 thin films on TiO2 substrates. The promising strategy of creating new transition-metal superconductors by redistributing carriers within d orbitals using carefully chosen anisotropic strains was discussed.

Observation of metallic electronic structure in a single-atomic-layer oxide

Byungmin Sohn et al.

Summary: While transition metal oxides typically become insulators in the single-atomic-layer limit, a correlated metallic state has been found in a single-atomic layer of epitaxial SrRuO3, demonstrating tunability in the electronic phase of single-atomic-layer oxides and the potential for rich phases in two-dimensional correlated electron systems.

Abrupt orthorhombic relaxation in compressively strained ultrathin SrRuO3 films

Prahald Siwakoti et al.

Summary: The lattice structure of SrRuO3 thin films can differ significantly from that of the corresponding bulk material, with RuO6 distortions appearing even in single unit cell films. Thicker films require 3-4 unit cells to fully relax to a bulklike orthorhombic structure. The TiO6 octahedra of the substrate near the interface with SrRuO3 films remain undistorted, unlike those near CaRuO3 film interfaces.
