Anisotropic Ion Migration and Electronic Conduction in van der Waals Ferroelectric CuInP2S6

Dawei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study presents direct evidence of a phase-selective anisotropic Cu-ion-hopping mechanism in copper indium thiophosphate, revealing a two-step Cu-hopping path. The electrically controlled Cu ion migration is further verified by nanoscale energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) mapping. These findings offer new insight into anisotropic ionic manipulation in layered vdW ferroelectric/dielectric materials for emergent vdW electronic device design.

Emergent Magnetic Phases in Pressure-Tuned van der Waals Antiferromagnet FePS3

Matthew J. Coak et al.

Summary: Research on the magnetic structure of 2D material FePS3 under different pressures reveals changes in magnetic order and the emergence of a form of magnetic short-range order that persists above room temperature as pressure increases. The study also finds that the persistence of magnetism well into the HP-II metallic state contradicts previous x-ray spectroscopy results suggesting a spin-crossover transition.

Spin-induced linear polarization of photoluminescence in antiferromagnetic van der Waals crystals

Xingzhi Wang et al.

Summary: This study successfully demonstrates the optical detection of Neel vector orientation in the van der Waals antiferromagnet NiPS3, and reveals a strong correlation between photoluminescence polarization and spin orientation in the crystal. By applying an in-plane magnetic field, manipulation of the photoluminescence polarization is achieved.

Exploring few and single layer CrPS4 with near-field infrared spectroscopy

Sabine N. Neal et al.

Summary: Using synchrotron-based near-field infrared spectroscopy and lattice dynamics calculations, the vibrational response of CrPS4 in different thicknesses was investigated. The mode pattern showed a specific space group characteristic with no symmetry crossover as a function of layer number, and non-monotonic frequency shifts were observed. In contrast to MnPS3, CrPS4's vibrational response is sensitive to interlayer motion and displacement patterns.
