Doping-induced non-Markovian interference causes excitonic linewidth broadening in monolayer WSe2

Florian Katsch et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of doping on the excitonic properties of atomically thin semiconductors was systematically investigated using a microscopic theory based on the excitonic Heisenberg equations of motion. The calculated results reveal the effects of Coulomb coupling between excitons and the trionic continuum on the exciton line shape and linewidth, explaining recent experimental observations. These insights provide a microscopic understanding of the optical properties of doped atomically thin semiconductors.

Terahertz-Induced Energy Transfer from Hot Carriers to Trions in a MoSe2 Monolayer

Tommaso Venanzi et al.

Summary: In this study, a redshift of the trion resonance in MoSe2 monolayer induced by picosecond THz pulses is reported, with the origin identified as the excess kinetic energy gained by hot carriers due to THz light absorption. Time-resolved measurements were used to determine the electron cooling time and estimate the absorption at a specific frequency. A quantitative model based on the Heisenberg equation of motion successfully explained the experimental observations and provided important insights for understanding trions in van der Waals semiconductors.

Imaging Seebeck drift of excitons and trions in MoSe2 monolayers

Sangjun Park et al.

Summary: Hyperspectral imaging at cryogenic temperatures was used to study the propagation of excitons and trions in MoSe2 monolayers encapsulated with hBN. Differences in the spatial distribution of these particles were observed at high excitation densities, with trions showing a halo shape and excitons only exhibiting moderate broadening. Numerical simulations suggest that the discrepancy in profiles is due to the distinct lifetimes of the two quasiparticles.

Exciton-polarons in two-dimensional semiconductors and the Tavis-Cummings model

Atac Imamoglu et al.

Summary: This paper uses an analogy to the Tavis-Cummings model of quantum optics to demonstrate that an exciton-polaron can be understood as a hybrid quasiparticle, a coherent superposition of a bare exciton in an unperturbed Fermi sea and a bright collective excitation of many trions. The analogy is considered valid as long as the Chevy Ansatz provides a good description of dynamical screening of excitons and the Fermi energy is much smaller than the trion binding energy. The results are expected to provide new insights into the differences between absorption and emission spectra of two-dimensional semiconductors.
