5-Hydroxymethylcytosine Signatures in Circulating Cell-Free DNA as Diagnostic Biomarkers for Late-Onset Alzheimer's Disease

Lei Chen et al.

Summary: This study found significant differences in the genome-wide distribution of 5hmC in circulating cell-free DNA between late-onset AD patients and cognitively normal controls, and these differences were linked to multiple AD pathogenesis-associated signaling pathways. The results suggest that 5hmC markers derived from plasma cfDNA can serve as effective, minimally invasive biomarkers for clinical auxiliary diagnosis of late-onset AD.

Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids prevent obesity by improving tricarboxylic acid cycle homeostasis

Run Liu et al.

Summary: The study showed that omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) improve mitochondrial function by affecting the transcription and translation of enzymes in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, thereby reducing obesity and alleviating insulin resistance.

Epigenetics of Alzheimer's Disease

Matea Nikolac Perkovic et al.

Summary: Validated biomarkers for accurately diagnosing Alzheimer's disease (AD) are currently lacking, but epigenetic modifications have been identified as important factors in the pathogenesis of AD. DNA methylation, hydroxymethylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNA regulation play critical roles in the development of AD, while mitochondrial DNA may serve as a potential biomarker for AD.
