Summary: Despite efforts to optimize patient conditions, undocumented psychiatric conditions can affect costs and quality metrics for institutions and physicians. This study reveals that both documented and undocumented psychiatric conditions have an impact on length of stay and discharge disposition following total hip arthroplasty (THA). Patients taking psychiatric medications experienced longer stays and were more likely to be discharged to secondary facilities, highlighting the relevance of medication review for pre-surgery patient optimization.
