Collisional excitation of NH by H2: Potential energy surface and scattering calculations

Paul Pirlot et al.

Summary: Collisional data between NH and H-2 are crucial for determining NH abundance in astrophysical environments. A new four-dimensional potential energy surface for the NH-H-2 van der Waals complex was presented, with calculated dissociation energies consistent with experimental values. Quantum close-coupling calculations showed differences in excitation cross sections induced by ortho-H-2 and para-H-2, with larger cross sections for fine structure conserving transitions. These findings will aid in interpreting NH interstellar spectra and constraining NH abundance in interstellar molecular clouds.
