Experimental investigation of underwater locally multi-resonant metamaterials under high hydrostatic pressure for low frequency sound absorption

Yinghong Gu et al.

Summary: This research introduced an underwater acoustic metamaterial capable of absorbing broadband low-frequency underwater sound under high hydrostatic pressure. Through local resonance modes, strong coupling, and multiple scattering effects among harmonic oscillators, the absorption band was significantly widened, demonstrating the effectiveness and superior sound absorption performance of the proposed acoustic metamaterial under high hydrostatic pressure conditions.

Ultra-thin and broadband low-frequency underwater acoustic meta-absorber

Yanni Zhang et al.

Summary: An ultra-thin meta-absorber design is proposed to achieve broadband low-frequency underwater sound absorption by inserting circular-elastic-plate scatterers (CPSs) into an elastomer matrix. The design enables high and quasi-perfect sound absorption at multiple frequencies and a broad low-frequency range. Experimentally confirmed, this research offers a novel and effective solution for broadband low-frequency underwater sound absorption.

Sound transmission analysis of functionally graded material plates with general boundary conditions in thermal environments

Zhengmin Hu et al.

Summary: A semi analytical model is proposed to analyze the sound transmission of functionally graded material plates under thermal loads, considering temperature dependent properties and different temperature fields. The dynamic equation with aeroelastic coupling effect is derived based on FSDT, and the displacement components are denoted in Fourier cosine series to satisfy boundary conditions. Parametric studies on various factors affecting sound transmission loss through FGM plates are conducted to validate the method.

Summary: A tractable transfer matrix method based on classical beam theory is developed to investigate the effects of axial tensile load and moving speed on natural frequencies of axially moving beams. The method, derived from the relationship between displacements and forces, is validated through comparison with previous studies. Analysis of critical speed for the fundamental frequency provides useful information for capturing divergence instability.

A thin meta-structure with multi-order resonance for underwater broadband sound absorption in low frequency

Li Bo Wang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a thin meta-structure with detuned multi-order micro-perforated panels with backing cavity (MPPB) for achieving broadband underwater sound absorption at low frequency. By inserting multiple micro-perforated panels into the original backing cavity, more sound absorption peaks can be obtained at higher frequencies without significantly changing the structure's total thickness. Through precise adjustment of parameters and parallel arrangement of MPPBs, a meta-structure with high absorption coefficients at 1380-3150 Hz is achieved.

Acoustic modes of locally resonant phononic crystals: Comparison with frequency-dependent mass models

Kenny L. S. Yip et al.

Summary: Locally resonant acoustic materials are proposed for sound control by using resonant oscillators consisting of heavy mass within a light shell embedded in foam. The effective, frequency-dependent mass densities of these oscillators are derived and used to evaluate the acoustic band structure in two dimensions. The accuracy of the results is validated by comparing with exact solutions obtained through numerical simulations.

Computer Modelling of Uniaxial Tension of Functionally Gradient Material Produced by Additive Manufacturing

V. Sh. Sufiiarov et al.

Summary: This study proposed a finite element approach using a multilinear plastic material model to simulate the mechanical properties of functionally graded materials (FGM), showing a strong correlation between simulation results and experiments. The research found that changing the size and geometry of inserts in composite specimens can modify the mechanical characteristics of the specimen. The multilinear plastic material model demonstrated higher agreement between simulation and experimental results compared to the bilinear model, providing a more comprehensive analysis.
