Deciphering the correlations between aging and constipation by metabolomics and network pharmacology

Xiaojie Liu et al.

Summary: This study explored the relationship between aging and constipation through behavioral analysis, fecal metabolomics, and network pharmacology. It found that aging and constipation are correlated, with some common metabolites and pathways involved. The results also provided support for the theoretical association between traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine theories on aging and constipation.

Anti-depressive effects of Xiaoyaosan, Shugan and Jianpi herbal treatments: Role on the gut microbiome of CUMS rats

Xiaojie Liu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that Xiaoyaosan (XYS) and its disassembled groups exhibit significant anti-depressive effects on rats, especially in restoring digestive system functions and regulating cecal microbiota. The Shugan group shows the best efficacy and may be used for clinical treatment of depression, particularly in patients with gastrointestinal and gut microbiota disorders.

Tempol ameliorates polycystic ovary syndrome through attenuating intestinal oxidative stress and modulating of gut microbiota composition-serum metabolites interaction

Tianhe Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that treatment with tempol alleviated ovarian dysfunction and glucose tolerance in PCOS rats, reduced intestinal oxidative stress, and modulated gut microbiota composition. Tempol intervention is suggested as a potential therapeutic approach for PCOS due to its ability to improve PCOS phenotype by restoring gut dysbiosis.

Horizontally Acquired Polysaccharide-Synthetic Gene Cluster From Weissella cibaria Boosts the Probiotic Property of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum

Yuqi Gao et al.

Summary: A newly identified EPS-synthetic gene cluster in Lactiplantibacillus plantarum plays a crucial role in enhancing biofilm formation ability, tolerance to harsh environmental stresses, adhesion to intestinal epithelial cells, as well as attenuating inflammation and inhibiting pathogenic bacteria adhesion. This finding highlights the significance of mobile EPS-synthetic elements in the probiotic activity of L. plantarum and provides insights for probiotic bacteria engineering.
