Entrainment During Human Locomotion Using a Soft Wearable Ankle Robot

Carly Thalman et al.

Summary: The study found that the novel soft robotic ankle-foot orthosis (SR-AFO) has significant potential in gait entrainment, effectively improving gait adaptation and rehabilitation. All 10 subjects were successfully entrained with the SR-AFO, and the observed basin of entrainment was substantially higher compared to a heavy rigid ankle robot, confirming its effectiveness.

Muscle-reflex model of human locomotion entrains to mechanical perturbations

Banu Abdikadirova et al.

Summary: Human gait can synchronize with periodic torque pulses applied by robotic exoskeletons, even when the pulse period slightly differs from the preferred stride period. Simulation studies using a neuromechanical model show similar entrainment behavior between the model's gait and hip perturbations. Further accurate models to describe neuromechanical interactions between human gait and robotic exoskeletons are needed to fully understand gait entrainment.

Applying Hip Stiffness With an Exoskeleton to Compensate Gait Kinematics

Jongwoo Lee et al.

Summary: Neurological disorders and aging can impair gait kinematics, and using lower-limb exoskeleton robots to restore gait kinematics is limited. This study found that applying virtual stiffness with a hip exoskeleton can induce changes in gait pattern, but there is little evidence of persistent changes in neuro-motor control. Immediate changes in kinematics suggest that applying hip stiffness with an exoskeleton may be an effective assistive technology.
