Dissecting Transmetalation Reactions at the Molecular Level: Role of the Coordinated Anion in Gas-Phase Models for the Transmetalation Step of the Hiyama Cross-Coupling Reaction

Adam W. E. Stewart et al.

Summary: Gas-phase model of the Hiyama cross-coupling reaction was established to investigate the roles of coordinated anions in transmetalation, using a combination of mass spectrometry experiments and DFT calculations. The results revealed the concerted nature of transmetalation reactions and provided insights into the mechanism of Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. The study sheds light on the correlation between gas-phase chemistry and solution-phase Pd-mediated homocoupling reactions.

New horizons in low oxidation state group 2 metal chemistry

Bastian Roesch et al.

Summary: Research on low-valent complexes of magnesium has made significant progress, from breaking the Mg-I-Mg-I bond to reducing aromatic solvents, to isolating zero-valent complexes and fixing molecular nitrogen. These studies have sparked great interest and potential for new reactivities and applications in the field of group 2 metal chemistry.

Dissecting transmetalation reactions at the molecular level: C-B versus F-B bond activation in phenyltrifluoroborate silver complexes

Fiona Bathie et al.

Summary: The gas-phase unimolecular reactions of the silver(I) complex [Ag(PhBF3)(2)](-) and its anionic product complexes were studied through collision induced dissociation (CID) experiments and theoretical calculations, revealing the detailed reaction mechanisms. The reactions involve Ph- group transfer, F- transfer, and release of PhBF3-, with the energy and transfer processes analyzed using Density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

Transmetalation: a fundamental organometallic reaction critical to synthesis and catalysis

Seth C. Rasmussen

Summary: Transmetalation, a fundamental reaction in organometallic chemistry, involves the transfer of carbon ligands from one metal to another. Despite its long history and significant applications in synthetic chemistry, transmetalation is often overlooked in textbooks. This study aims to supplement current textbooks by providing a basic understanding of the details and parameters of this important reaction.
