Arene C-H Iodination Using Aryl Iodides

Shangda Li et al.

Summary: Metathesis reactions are powerful synthetic tools used in various fields. In this study, the first Pd(II)-catalyzed C-H iodination of arenes was reported, using 2-nitrophenyl iodides as iodinating reagents via a formal metathesis reaction. The reaction exhibited unusual C-I bond formation instead of C-C coupling, allowing for selective iodination of challenging substrates.

Remote ortho-C-H functionalization via medium-sized cyclopalladation

Mario Martinez Mingo et al.

Summary: Compared to the progress made in directed ortho-C-H functionalization, protocols that selectively activate more remote C-H bonds through larger metalacycles are rare and challenging. However, this strategy offers new opportunities for generating structural diversity and complexity. Recent research using mono-anionic bidentate or monodentate directing groups has characterized this approach as a viable tool for selective C-C and C-X bond-forming reactions.

Ligand-Enabled C-H Olefination and Lactonization of Benzoic Acids and Phenylacetic Acids via Palladium Catalyst

Yangyang Wang et al.

Summary: A novel ligand propan-2-one O-(p-tolylcarbamoyl) oxime (L7) has been developed to promote C(sp(2))-H olefination of benzoic acids and phenylacetic acids via a palladium catalyst. The subsequent lactonization of the olefinated products through 1,4-addition results in highly monoselective cyclic lactone products of benzofuranones and benzopyrones. DFT calculation shows that the novel ligand can elegantly improve the C-H activation reaction to form cyclic lactone products.

A tautomeric ligand enables directed C-H hydroxylation with molecular oxygen

Zhen Li et al.

Summary: This study reports a palladium complex that efficiently catalyzes hydroxylation of aryl carbon-hydrogen bonds at positions adjacent to carboxylic acids. The catalyst overturns the conventional site selectivity dictated by heterocycles, allowing late-stage modification of pharmaceutical compounds at previously inaccessible sites. Infrared, x-ray, and computational analysis support a potential role of ligand tautomerization in the catalytic cycle of this reaction.
